A Mini Back Massage Courtesy of Rommel

A lot of people think dachshunds aren’t good for much beyond being cute and going batsh*t crazy every time the doorbell rings.

As a human who has lived with five dachshunds (and a couple of German Shepherds and a Bull Mastiff), I can tell you with confidence that the wienerdog has all kinds of uses and capabilities beyond the standard dog stuff.

For example, Rommel loved to sit with me when I sewed. However, it’s a little difficult to operate a sewing machine when you have a dog in your lap with his nose 1 inch from the needle. As a result, I’d scoot forward in my chair and let Rommel sit behind me.

Of course, merely sitting was never enough for Rommel because he also wanted to see what I was doing. So he would sit up on his hind legs, pressing his from paws against my back and try to look under my arm or over my shoulder.

Oh, and he’d so this the entire time – for hours sometimes.

I can’t tell you what he saw because I was busy sewing. But I can tell you that I got a dachshund-sized lower back massage while he did it.

I'm a certifiable dachshund fanatic and lover of anything that involves doxies. I have five — Rommel, Franzi, Montgomery, Hank, and Hercules — plus two German Shepherds, Noet and Sunna, who think they're dachshunds.
