Meet Hercules, The Newest Member of Our Pack

It’s with great joy that introduce you Hercules, to the newest member of the pack here at DoxiePlanet!

A wonderful friend surprised me with him on my birthday a little more than a week ago.

Hercules was born on March 4, 2024, the only boy in the litter (he has two sisters). His mom is a classic red, while his dad is a black Dobie doxie. (I think you can see a little of both in him.)

After a day or two of getting to know his new home, he’s settled right in as if he’s always lived here. Hank the dachshund and Sunna the German Shepherd are older now, so they’re a little exhausted from all his energy. The cats want nothing to do with him. The ducks and chickens have ignored him so far, except for one encounter with Big Red the chicken who made it clear to him that puppies should stay out of the chicken food.

He didn’t bark for the first couple of days, so I was a little curious as to whether he was going to be a barker or a bayer (Montogmery the Dachshund was a bayer and he could make your ears rings). With those big ears and paws, Hercules looks like a hound who could bay.

The question was answered for us yesterday, when the nextdoor neighbor’s Sheltie decided to introduce himself at the fence. Hercules is definitely a barker!

A LOUD barker! (He can make pots in the cupboard ring.)

Naturally, he’s doing all the puppy stuff. A deck of cards, the bamboo rug, and several socks have already been torn to shreds. (I forgot how much energy puppies have!)

I’m looking forward to finding out if he’s got that Dachshund hunter instinct when he gets a little older. The ground squirrels have been tunneling roughshod through the gardens ever since Franzi the Dachshund passed away. It’d be nice to let those furry pests know there’s a new sheriff in town!
